Critics of Globalstar L.P. [GSTRF] have one less thing to complain about, at least in the United States, as Globalstar USA announced that customers now will be able to roam anywhere in North America, throughout Europe and in parts of Brazil.

International roaming is made possible with an additional gateway installed in Aussaguel, France. Customers of Globalstar USA, a subsidiary of Vodafone Airtouch plc [VOD], now can roam in 35 countries outside of North America. Prices for calls will range from $1.79 to $1.99 per minute plus long distance charges. A complete list of roaming-capable countries is available at http://www.globalstarusa.com.

“With our expansion into Europe, we are implementing our vision of having the greatest coverage of any handheld phone in the world,” said Mike Kerr, vice president and general manager of Globalstar USA.

In other Globalstar news, Vodafone Australia, Globalstar’s service provider partner in Australia, has completed its full commercial rollout of the mobile satellite phone service across the country. According to company officials, this service rollout brings coverage to 100 percent of the country, a key statistic considering 95 percent of the landmass has no terrestrial wireless coverage.
