Canal+ Cyfrowy has been ordered to stop transmitting the signals of commercial broadcasters Polsat and Nasza TV. Separately, Polsat must also cease transmitting programming made by public broadcaster TVP, according to the National Radio and Television Broadcasting Council (KRRiT). Canal Plus Polska will appeal to the Supreme Administrative Court.

According to KRRiT, Canal+ Cyfrowy is in violation of its licence, which obliges it to possess the current consent of broadcasters for the transmission of their programmes. Polsat and Nasza TV have allegedly not given such consent.

KRRiT Chairman Juliusz Braun has already called on Canal+ Cyfrowy to cease transmissions of Polsat. Canal Plus maintained that Cyfra+, like Canal Plus Polska, is broadcast legally and that it had written consent from Polsat allowing it to distribute that channel.

Polsat has been transmitting TVP programmes on its own digital platform on the basis of its licence, which was granted in December 1998. Nonetheless, according to TVP, Polsat does not have consent for the transmission of its four stations.

TVP has claimed that a detailed agreement with Polsat was never finalised because Polsat never requested a discussion of conditions. Polsat maintains that it is acting within the terms of its licence.
