Open…, the interactive platform broadcast alongside Sky Digital, is considering alternative economic models for its e-mail service. Users of the BT Talk 21 service are currently charged the local call rate plus an additional one penny per minute. This compares to digital terrestrial service ONdigital’s proposed local call rate, the free offers from cable and a growing number of free Internet Service Providers (ISPs). Alice MacAndrew, corporate affairs manager for Open…, recently told a meeting of the Royal Television Society that other economic models were being studied, but there were no plans for any immediate change.
