The UK subsidiary of the Norwegian telecommunication company Telenor has officially opened its new UK headquarters. Telenor (UK) Ltd’s Central London facility is situated close to Russell Square. The rooftop uplink site is able to cover most of the major European satellites in an arc stretching from 50 degrees East to 50 degrees West. The company is hoping that the move will enable it to finally break into the Eastern European market. Already Telenor UK serves most of the UK-based broadcasters beaming to Telenor’s One West satellite position.

Telenor’s Pal Svensen, Managing Director of Telenor Satellite Services, said that the move was timely given the current expansion of the newly merged television and satellite services division. “In order to develop we need to take part in the new services. Starting in the Nordic market we will move out into central and eastern Europe after we have moved out with broadcast services.” The pounds250 million turnover (1998) satellite services division intends to grow both the business to business and IP services sector.

From the roof of the building it is possible to see the BT Tower, the ITN building in Grays Inn Road and the Millennium Wheel with the naked eye. The facility itself has terrestrial connectivity to the BT Tower, while line of sight is able to link up with the London Television Centre on the South Bank and Pearson TV.
