Two new radio stations will soon extend the already broad variety of German broadcasters using a satellite feed to reach DTH homes. Chart Radio, the pop and rock channel from Media Control that was so far only transmitted via the Internet, has received a licence from Stuttgart-based media authority Landesanstalt fYr Kommunikation that permits distribution via cable, satellite and terrestrial outlets such as FM, medium wave and DAB. According to a Media Control spokeswoman no date has been finalized yet for the satellite launch of the 24-hour service. “It won’t happen during the next few weeks, but in the mid-term we’ll go on satellite,” she said. The schedule of Chart Radio, which claims to be Europe’s most successful Internet radio, consists of top hits from the charts. Wharp-Radio, the planned youth radio from SaarbrYcken-based commercial broadcaster Radio SalY, is also looking at adding a satellite feed. The channel, which targets teenagers and young adults aged 10 to 24, has received a licence last week from Saarland’s media authority for inclusion in Saarland’s terrestrial DAB package. Wharp-Radio will specialise in electonic music, house, techno, progressive dance and jungle.
