Granada wants to set up a television network in Germany. The general entertainment channel is expected to launch as a digital pay-TV service with the necessary broadcast licence to be applied for by the British media group’s German subsidiary Granada Produktion fYr Film und Fernsehen GmbH that was recently founded in Berlin. The channel will be launched during the first half of 2001. Granada’s German affiliate will also produce programmes out of the UK-based parent company’s large rights catalogue tailored for the German market for large broadcasters such as RTL and develop new formats as well. The production of cinema movies is also planned.
