Interspace understands Eutelsat to be completing plans to commercialise new positions at 4 degrees East and 33 degrees East. It is believed that Eutelsat I-F5 will be moved to the former slot, while Eutelsat I-F4 will go to the latter. Eutelsat confirmed, without being specific, that it was looking at new orbital positions. “We are not alone in doing this,” said a Eutelsat spokesperson. Eutelsat has two imminent launches coming up, with Sesat due to lift off from the Baikonur cosmodrome on the night of Wednesday April 5-6, and W4 scheduled from the Cape a week later on April 14. Assuming success on both launches this would certainly free up some Eutelsat capacity for new roles in fresh locations. Both 4 and 33 degrees East are Eutelsat ITU-recognised filings.
