Boeing’s Sea Launch confirmed it had won a major contract with PanAmSat. The deal calls for a single launch in the second quarter of 2000 (of PAS-9, a Hughes-built HS601 craft at 58 degrees West) and options on four other launches. Second candidate would be Galaxy IIIC, destined for 95 degrees West, later this year. However, other problems are afoot for Sea Launch with reports from the Ukraine saying Sea Launch will delay the upcoming launch of a Zenit rocket from its floating platform until late February or early March due to technical problems.
