Canalsatellite was fined and ordered to pay damages of Fr750 (Euro 114) plus costs of Fr700 each to seven subscribers by a court in Marseilles last week for not having broadcast a number of football matches following the deal over transmission rights struck last summer. The plaintiffs had requested Fr2,750, the amount which it would cost to subscribe to the rival TPS bouquet which carried the matches in question. The judge found that the Canalsatellite advertising literature which stated that subscribers would not miss out on any matches comprised a contractual obligation.
