A Founders Conference for the new Arthur C. Clarke Institute for Telecommunications and Information (CITI) will be held at Intelsat’s headquarters in Washington on Feb. 5.

Events will include video addresses by Sir Arthur C. Clarke and legendary newsman Walter Cronkite, as well as those from leading figures in the space and information industries; interactive "electronic discussions" with research centers from around the world; and a review and assessment of proposed new projects of the institute.

The institute is named in honor of Clarke, the conceiver of the geosynchronous communications satellite and the author of the acclaimed 2001: a Space Odyssey.

The conference is being sponsored by Intelsat; Phillips International Inc., publisher of Satellite Today; Esatel; SatLink Communications Corp.; Trex Communications Corp.; The Arthur C. Clarke Foundation of the United States; The Arthur C. Clarke Foundation of the United Kingdom; and The Arthur C. Clarke Institute for Modern Technologies of Sri Lanka.
