RIVAL FINANCE CHANNELS RACE TO LAUNCH
London-based media consultancy Inview Media has won a major marketing contract from The Money Channel. The agreement follows Inview’s ongoing negotiations for the distribution of the channel throughout Europe. In a statement, Graham Pitman, managing director of Inview said, "There has been tremendous interest from all the major satellite and cable operators across Europe for this type of product. We shall be working in a very focused way in terms of marketing, ensuring that The Money Channel both attracts additional television subscribers and at the same time establishes itself as a highly viewed channel, adding real value in the multichannel television marketplace of today."
While The Money Channel will be available on Sky Digital and is reportedly close to gaining carriage with NTL and Telewest (Interspace 682), it is under pressure from rival Invest TV’s personal finance channel Simply Money. Under a freshly inked 10-year agreement with Societe Europeene des Satellites (SES), Invest will provide a 24-hour digital broadcast service on Astra with the possibility of developing other channels and interactive services. Simply Money has a planned launch date of January 24, 2000 in the UK and will be available on Sky Digital. The launch of The Money Channel, initially planned for November, has been delayed until February.
