United Pan-Europe Communications (UPC) may seek a merger between its Polish cable and DTH platform @Entertainment and rival Canal Plus Polska, according to UPC president Mark Schneider. "The future for @Entertainment has two possibilities," said Schneider. "One is that we do it on our own to move towards breakeven. It’s [got] over 200,000 [subscribers] as we sit now. We will market it into the rest of central Europe. There’s a big market out there. DTH is not for everybody because of costs."

Schneider indicated that his preferred option would be a merger with the Canal Plus-backed service, Cyfra+. "The other possibility is to make a deal with Canal Plus. We would like to see that happen but it’s not a condition for success," he said.
