Canal Plus has confirmed reports that it has written to TF1 chief executive Patrick Le Lay to request carriage for itelevision on the TPS platform. Canal Plus is to launch itelevision, a regional news channel, on November 4, to coincide with its 15th birthday, on Canalsatellite. In January Canal gave TF1 the required one year’s notice to end the contract to carry the TF1-owned news channel LCI on Canalsatellite. Since then, the two have been negotiating. It seems certain that Canal is seeking a reciprocal carriage arrangement for its own news channel, although officially the two sets of negotiations are independent.
