ADC Telecommunications Inc. [ADCT] is angling to exploit new business opportunities in Europe through the formation of a U.K.-based subsidiary that will concentrate its efforts on providing microcellular systems solutions for GSM.

ADC Microcellular Systems Ltd. will bring together the company’s wireless implementation expertise with its microcellular product portfolio to make available a variety of turnkey solutions for GSM cellular and DCS-1800 operators. The new subsidiary, based in Bracknell, England, will work closely with interWAVE, ADC’s international GSM partner, on drumming up GSM microcellular business. Deployment options, ADC said, will range from distributed antenna arrays to dedicated GSM system offerings, including micro base stations with one, two or three transceivers as well as an integrated switch and controller hardware platform.
