Fiber-optic and satellite operator Vyvx Inc. announced Jan. 8 that it completed its purchase of MGS Services Inc., Viacom Inc.’s [VIA] broadcast adver tising distribution provider. MGS duplicates commercials and sends them via air freight for its corporate and advertising agency customers. The deal follows Vyvx’s recent buy of Cycle-Sat, a similar distributor. "Customers now have the flexibility of tape, digital satellite and store-and-forward distribution options, coupled with the capability to instantly gather ads using the Vyvx fiber network," said company President Del Bethof. Separately, Vyvx signed a deal with IXC Communications to swap rights to use "dark fibers" (fiber cables without laser devices) on the fiber networks the two companies each are building. Vyvx said the swap will expand its service area and lower its capital investment and lease costs. Vyvx, which uses its fiber network for video backhaul, is a unit of Tulsa, Okla.-based The Williams Cos. Inc. [WMB]. (Vyvx, 918/588-5760.)
