[Via Satellite 04-09-2015] AvL Technologies has unveiled two new antennas for satellite applications. The first is a quick-deploy 1.5-meter Ku/Ka vehicle mount that weighs less than 200 lbs. The second is a 70-centimeter axi-symmetrical manual flyaway antenna that weighs less than 40 lbs.

AvL Technologies’ new 1.5-m antenna features a pallet for roof mounting on a standard van or truck, an auto-acquisition controller, and the company’s zero-backlash cable drive for stiffness and accurate pointing for Ka-band operation. The 70-cm flyaway antenna fits into airline carry-on compliant backpacks, and is designed to meet the U.S. Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) currently proposed rule for Ka-band apertures. The antenna also features an eight-piece segmented carbon fiber reflector. AvL’s Ka-band antennas are often used for broadband, Satellite News Gathering (SNG) data backhaul for the energy sector and other applications.
