[Via Satellite 11-13-13] U.S. Electrodynamics, Inc. (USEI) recently completed the installation of a 4.8m Ku antenna on SES’s AMC 21 satellite using Vialite RF-over-fiber links between the new antenna and control room. Sales Director at the Brewster Teleport, David Grooms, confirmed that the equipment is now fully operational.
Operated by SES, AMC 21 is a Ku-band satellite providing coverage to all 50 US states, Gulf of Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. The satellite supports broadcasting services and maritime communications.
USEI chose ViaLite L-band inter-facility links equipped with wave division multiplexing (WDM). Using separate optical wavelengths, WDM means USEI can transmit multiple signals on a single fiber. Also supplied by ViaLite Communications for this installation, USEI is using UPC7002 automatic up-link power control units from Peak Communications. These units measure the link loss from a satellite beacon and automatically control the uplink power via a number of attenuator channels.
