SES has selected Gilat Satellite Network’s global mobility platform to serve cruise lines and maritime service providers. Under the agreement announced Tuesday, customers will be able to access satellite-enabled services delivered by SES’s O3b mPOWER and Geostationary (GEO) fleet through Gilat’s multi-orbit platform. Gilat described the agreement as a multi-million dollar order.

Gilat said the network expansion will position the company’s Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) platform at over a dozen gateways to form a multi-orbit and global network and for passenger Wi-Fi. Gilat’s Aquarius Pro VSATs will provide multi-gigabyte services utilizing capacity from the O3B mPOWER constellation and other SES GEO satellite assets, including SES-17.

“With this award Gilat has unquestionably solidified its presence in the maritime market and expects to work hand-in-hand with SES to deliver to the most stringent service demands,” commented Ron Levin, senior vice president of Mobility and Strategic Accounts at Gilat.

Gilat is working with SES as a technology partner for the O3b mPOWER system, along with ST Engineering iDirect.
