AXESS Networks revealed Tuesday that it will provide cellular backhaul connectivity services for ALTÁN Redes in Mexico. The first phase of the project will include the assignment of 80 satellite sites, and the second phase will include an additional 1,000 sites.

With the satellite deployment already in place, ALTÁN Redes currently provides connectivity through 4.5G LTE mobile voice and data service to 57% of the Mexican population. The company expects to have covered at least 70% of Mexico by January 2022, and reach 92% in January 2024.

With the cellular backhaul connectivity solution implemented, ALTÁN Redes and AXESS estimate, not only to increase connectivity throughout Mexico but also to promote the competitiveness of virtual Mobile Network Operators (MNO), cable operators, and small community operators by improving pricing.

”We are very satisfied to be the technological partner of ALTÁN Redes for the most important connectivity project in the region. This new assignment confirms the trust they have in us as the main supplier and the ability of our company to support developments of this magnitude in Latin America” commented Miguel E. Rodríguez, president of AXESS Américas.

Editor’s note: This has been updated to reflect a corrected press release that the second phase will include an additional 1,000 sites. It has also been updated to clarify the service is cellular backhaul.
