Hughes Network Systems (Hughes) has won a key new contract in Latin America, the company announced Aug. 27. Axesat, one of the main broadband service providers in the region, has chosen to offer Hughes satellite connectivity to enterprise customers throughout Colombia.

“At Axesat, we focus on serving companies in locations where terrestrial infrastructure is not available,” said Mauricio Segovia, chief executive officer, Axesat. “With Hughes Ka-band service, we will offer these customers better performance, pricing and flexibility to go with the Axesat managed services that today’s distributed businesses need to make the most of their networks.” Along with Hughes satellite connectivity, Axesat offers enterprise customers a suite of managed network services to make the most of their multisite networks.”

The Ka-band service will be delivered using capacity on the Telstar 19 VANTAGE satellite located at 63 degrees West, which provides coverage across 96 percent of the population of Colombia. Hughes has a 15-year agreement in place with Telesat to deliver Ka-band capacity of 31 Gbps on Telstar 19 covering many countries in South America. Hughes utilizes its high-throughput Jupiter technology for supporting ground system and customer premises equipment.
