[Via Satellite 02-03-2014] Transaero Airlines is expanding its in-flight Internet and mobile connectivity communication services. The airline started providing high-speed broadband Internet and mobile communications services onboard its aircraft in 2012. Transaero now offers these services on 14 of its long-haul aircraft and two medium-haul Boeing 737 Classics.

Currently 10 additional Transaero aircraft are undergoing the installation process.

The airline’s aircraft are equipped with Ku-band technologies provided by Panasonic GSC and Row44 systems. This Ku-band technology, using an 11.7 to 14.5 GHz frequency spectrum, allows passengers Internet access to check email, browse Web pages and use social media sites.

In 2013, more than 3,000 passengers used Transaero’s in-flight Internet services, 28,500 passengers took advantage of the opportunity to make phone calls using the airline’s mobile communication services, and 900,000 SMS messages were sent and received on Transaero flights.
