Qatar Airways announced June 19 it would be the first international airline to install live onboard satellite television as part of a $100 million agreement with Lufthansa Technik. The service will be introduced on Qatar Airway’s long-haul fleet of Airbus A330 aircraft by the end of the year.

Lufthansa Technik will install Rockwell Collins’ Tailwind 560 product for providing live satellite television, allowing passengers to watch selected networks. The service will be available in all cabins, though those in business and first class will get to watch television on 15-inch screens, compared to 9-inch screens in economy class. The initial channels, as well as the provider for the service, were not immediately disclosed.
