GomSpace will build 18 satellites for an unnamed European tech firm under a 19.5 million euros ($22.7 million) contract.

GomSpace described the customer as a “disruptor in space-based communications backed by long-term capital and early commercial interest.” GomSpace has been contracted to deliver 18 satellites in a 12-month timeframe for a proof-of-concept mission. The contract was announced on June 25.

The satellites will be built on the company’s standardized satellite platform, which it said supports rapid deployment and cost-efficient manufacturing. GomSpace is a small satellite manufacturer based in Denmark, and will manufacture the satellites at its production facilities in Aalborg.

GomSpace said this is a “significant milestone” for the company showing in its market readiness and satellite platform.

“This is a mission-critical initiative for our customer, and we are proud to have been chosen from a competitive field of suppliers. Our technology heritage, customer mission focus, world-class team, and scalable manufacturing capabilities were decisive factors. We are honored to support this ambitious venture and look forward to establishing a long-term collaboration,” GomSpace CEO Carsten Drachmann said in a release.
