Terran Orbital and South Korea’s Hanwha Systems announced an MoU on Wednesday to work together on satellite manufacturing, including solar cells, and cooperate in the defense industry in both the U.S. and South Korea.

The announcement was light on details, but the companies said the MoU establishes a framework for joint research and development efforts for solar technology for satellites with Hanwha Systems subsidiary Flexell Space

Terran Orbital plans to establish a footprint in Korea and Flexell to expand into the U.S. Terran Orbital CEO Marc Bell said the collaboration will allow the satellite manufacturer to bring its satellite solutions to a broader customer base across Asia.

The collaboration is focused on the defense market and the companies said the “strategic partnership aims to bolster the defense capabilities of both the United States and South Korea.”

“We look forward to strengthening our position in the global satellite industry through a variety of technical collaborations with Terran Orbital,” said Tim Ahn, CEO of Flexell Space.
