NASA has selected SpaceX to launch the JPSS-4 mission in 2027 for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The contract announced Monday is a firm fixed-price contract valued at $112.7 million.

The JPSS-4 mission is currently targeted to launch in 2027, on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Space Launch Complex 4E at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.

The spacecraft is part of the multi-satellite cooperative Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) program, a partnership between NOAA and NASA. The JPSS constellation collects multi-spectral data of Earth’s environment for NOAA’s weather and climate work and for NASA’s Earth science research. JPSS-4, will carry the NASA Earth Venture mission Libera.

Earlier this month, NASA also awarded SpaceX a $69 million contract to launch the COSI Compton Spectrometer and Imager mission, currently target for August 2027.
