Planet Labs signed a contract with the European Space Agency (ESA) on behalf of the Hellenic Ministry of Digital Governance to support the Greek National SmallSat Program, Planet announced on March 24.

The program is funded by the Recovery and Resilience Fund Greece 2.0 and aims to develop Greece’s national satellite technology using Planet’s commercial satellite data. Greece plans to use Planet’s PlanetScope data to develop downstream services, enable technological development, and complement its national satellite data feeds. PlanetScope provides near-daily scans of Earth’s landmass at 3-meter resolution.

“Access to Planet’s satellite data will provide valuable data and insights for the development and validation of our national downstream services. This will accelerate innovation and will ensure the effective integration with data from our national space assets,” said Professor Konstantinos Karantzalos, secretary general of Telecommunications & Post, Ministry of Digital Governance.

Planet has secured contracts with other international governments, including a recent agreement with the Japanese Space Agency through JSAT.
