BlackSky Technology secured multi-year contracts to support the development of India’s commercial Earth observation capabilities, the company announced Feb. 13.

The unnamed customer will have access to a BlackSky Spectra subscription, which offers access to BlackSky’s imagery and analytics. BlackSky will also deliver one high-resolution Earth observation satellite and launch support operations for the customer. The contracts have a combined value of eight figures.

Once operational, the satellite will work with BlackSky’s existing monitoring constellation to provide mission-relevant insights.

BlackSky’s CEO, Brian O’Toole commented: “BlackSky’s combined offering will provide India immediate foresight into critical events impacting the nation as it continues to expand its sovereign space capabilities over the next few years.”

BlackSky is also approaching the launch of its first Gen-3 satellite on a Rocket Lab mission with a launch window opening on Feb. 18. The launch will add a 35-centimeter imaging capability to BlackSky’s data and analytics offerings.

“As more Gen-3 satellites complete production, we expect a regular cadence of additional launches over the coming year,” said O’Toole.
