Dragonfly Aerospace will supply Australian Earth observation company LatConnect 60 with three Chameleon SWIR (shortwave Infrared) imagers for their SWIRSAT satellites, Dragonfly announced Jan. 7.
Supported by the Australian Space Agency and Western Australian State Government, the project aims to enhance satellite imaging capabilities. The satellites are scheduled to launch in 2026.
The Chameleon SWIR technology is designed to address challenges such as methane gas detection, precision agriculture, disaster management and mineral exploration. Dragonfly Aerospace said the technology allows for clearer imaging through atmospheric interference such as smoke or haze and delivers spectral insights unavailable in traditional optical imagery.
LatConnect 60 CEO, Venkat Pillay, commented: “Partnering with Dragonfly Aerospace allows us to leverage the latest innovations in SWIR imaging to deliver high-value data to our customers with customised spectral bands. The SWIRSAT satellite constellation will mark a new era in Earth observation, particularly for high-resolution carbon emissions monitoring.”
