Berlin-based UP42 is joining forces with Planet Labs to improve the data offerings it can offer customers on its an Earth Observation (EO) platform. This collaboration aims to significantly expand UP42’s optical data portfolio with the integration of Planet SkySat, a large constellation of high resolution EO satellites.

With the deal, Planet joins Umbra, ICEYE, Capella Space, KOMPSAT-5, and TerraSAR-X as an UP42 data provider.

UP42 will now see its customers have access to Planet’s high resolution, high cadence data, including sub-daily collections in some areas. UP42 customers will also benefit from a standardized ordering process, harmonized data formats through STAC, scalable API ordering, and advanced processing capabilities for both archived and new images.

“True to their mission to make global change visible and actionable, Planet has been revolutionizing the EO industry for years. Our partnership with Planet underscores our commitment to provide our customers with high resolution data for their projects by expanding our portfolio of data providers and platform capabilities,” Jussi Koski, CPO, UP42, said in a statement.

Planet has 15 SkySat satellites in orbit, offering frequent revisit capabilities and capturing insights multiple times per day at 50 cm resolution.
