Imagery startup Synspective and regional operator Thaicom are partnering to jointly offer synthetic aperture radar (SAR) for disaster response in Thailand.
The two companies announced Tuesday they plan to offer a solution to government, defense, agriculture, and finance sectors in Thailand, with Synspective’s SAR technology and Thaicom’s knowledge of the satellite and space sector in Thailand. The companies said the service will be applicable to disaster response, environmental monitoring, agricultural productivity, and infrastructure planning.
Synspective, based in Japan, has three SAR satellites in orbit, which can see through clouds and darkness to gather data. Its third satellite, “StriX-1,” also its first commercial prototype, captured its first images at the end of last year.
“Our partnership with Synspective will enable governments and businesses to make informed decisions on sustainable development and allows for effective maintenance and planning in Thailand,” said Thaicom COO Piyawat Jriyasetapong. “From saving lives and minimizing disaster impact on society after natural disasters to increased agricultural productivity by using SAR data and monitoring services means Thailand can become a more sustainable and resilient society.”
