Skylo has signed another deal with an IoT tech company, partnering with Soracom to provide its satellite IoT through the company’s cloud-based IoT network management. Soracom said this collaboration gives its customers building IoT solutions and M2M devices access to Skylo’s direct-to-device 3GPP non-terrestrial network (NTN) connectivity, along with Soracom’s fully-virtualized cellular platform.
Soracom is embracing satellite IoT and last year added Astrocast’s satellite connectivity to its platform.
The companies said this partnership will combine Soracom protocol conversion and authentication offloading features, so customers can minimize the amount of data transmitted over the satellite link while maintaining integration with a cloud service of their choice.
“Soracom is committed to a cloud-native future where anything can connect to the cloud from anywhere, without compromising availability, affordability, or capability,” said Kenta Yasukawa, CTO and co-founder of Soracom. “Combining breakthrough NTN NB-IoT network, we can enable customers to add satellite coverage to their existing hardware with minimal data overhead for hyperscaler cloud integrations.”
Skylo has a number of recent partnerships in the IoT space, with a recent deal for a certification program with Keysight Technologies, IoT modems with Qualcomm, and floLive’s IoT data network.
