Skyloom completed the build and delivery of 42 flight-ready optical communication terminals (OCTs) to York Space Systems as part of the Space Development Agency’s (SDA) Tranche 1 Transport Layer program on Thursday.
Skyloom produced the deliveries in the United States. Skyloom said the company is progressing toward an additional batch of 42 optical communication terminals for York’s Plane 2.
Skyloom President Marcos Franceschini said: “We would like to extend thanks to Dirk Wallinger for his thought leadership and the entire team at York for their unwavering support, as well as to SDA for the opportunity to contribute this technology to the U.S. space program. This achievement is not just a U.S. technical victory, but also a strong demonstration of American manufacturing capability to meet the rapidly growing demand of space technology and to support our national security interests.”
York received the award from SDA in 2022, along with Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman, to build 42 satellites each for the Tranche 1 Transport Layer. In January, York said that its Tranche 1 and Tranche 2 satellites are set to launch later this year.
“York’s ability to deliver for SDA at scale is made possible by a strong and reliable supply chain, supported by trusted partners like Skyloom,” said Dev Rudra, chief supply chain officer at York. “Skyloom’s successful delivery of these proven optical communication terminals ensures that our satellites are equipped with reliable, high-performance technology to meet mission demands.”
