Orion Space Solutions awarded Redwire a contract to deliver a third Mako spacecraft for the U.S. Space Force’s (USSF) Tetra-6 mission, Redwire announced Feb. 11.

This mission follows the Tetra-5 mission, where Redwire is delivering two Mako spacecraft. The award was originally to Hera Systems, which is now part of Redwire after Redwire acquired the company last year. Redwire said the Mako spacecraft for both missions will be capable of being refueled and compatible with multiple refueling mechanisms.

The Tetra-5 mission is planned to demonstrate cooperative inspection, docking, on-orbit refueling, proximity operations and next-generation autonomy techniques. The Tetra-6 mission will demonstrate additional technological capabilities for the USSF.

Redwire offers five spacecraft platforms — Mako, Thresher, Hammerhead, SabreSat, and Phantom — supporting missions across various orbits.

Peter Cannito, Redwire chairman and CEO, commented: “These platforms represent a critical capability for national security missions. By delivering versatile, cost-effective, and reliable spacecraft solutions, Redwire helps to ensure that our nation and its allies are equipped to address emerging challenges and protect vital interests in space.”
