Iceye has been tapped to lead an industry consortium for the Finnish Ministry of Defense (MoD) F-35 fighter jet program. The consortium will develop advanced space and joint intelligence technologies, and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities for Finnish military users.
Iceye, based in Finland, operates a constellation of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellites.
Lockheed Martin is working to deliver an order of 64 fighter jets to Finland’s government under the HX Program announced in 2021.
The new consortium announced Wednesday includes Finnish companies Insta, Huld, DA-Group, and the Finnish Meteorological Institute which will work with Lockheed Martin. The technology collaboration includes capabilities such as analytics with AI, mobile ISR cell development, advanced analytics, and SAR.
Iceye said this partnership presents opportunities to expand collaboration with NATO allies and strengthen Finland’s aerospace technologies.
“This partnership aligns with [Iceye’s] ambition to strengthen information capabilities and develop advanced technologies, ensuring that the Finnish Defense Forces and allies can be equipped with the vital knowledge and capabilities required to maintain the strategic advantage,” said Pekka Laurila, chief strategy officer and co-founder of Iceye.
