Hughes Network Systems subsidiary Hughes Europe is expanding into European military, defense, and government sectors through a collaboration with Telespazio, the company announced Tuesday.

Hughes Europe will work with satcom service provider Telespazio to offer communication solutions including fully managed multi-orbit satellite network solution software, an SDR waveform agnostic intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) terminal, and a secure standalone 5G solution. The business will leverage capacity from the Eutelsat Konnect VHTS satellite, which uses the Hughes Jupiter ground system

Telespazio is the exclusive commercial provider for defense and governmental security services. Hughes will provide expertise in satellite broadband managed services. Troy Truman, formerly of Elbit Systems UK, will lead the initiative for Hughes Europe.

Hughes highlighted the demand for high-speed connectivity and the growing security concerns around Europe’s advancing military and governmental requirements for ISR and beyond visual line of sight (BVLoS) connectivity.

“The Hughes Jupiter System is the de facto standard for satellite implementations worldwide. The Konnect VHTS satellite utilizes our Jupiter System, and we are thrilled to collaborate with Telespazio to deliver reliable, high-speed connectivity solutions to our customers,” Chris Britton, managing director of Hughes Europe said in a release.
