Betty Sapp, former director of the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) and the first woman in history to hold that position, was elected to join Ball Corporation‘s board of directors, the company announced May 28.
Sapp joined the NRO in 1997 and served in a variety of strategic leadership roles, including principal deputy director. She was named director of the NRO in 2012 and served as deputy under secretary of Defense for Intelligence. Before that, she spent 17 years with the U.S. Air Force, serving in various acquisition and financial management positions on space and satellite programs.
“We are thrilled to welcome Betty to our board of directors,” Ball Chairman, President and CEO John A. Hayes, said in a statement. “With her legacy of strong performance and a commitment to diversity while at the NRO, and her rich experience at the Department of Defense and the Air Force, she will complement our existing board and leaders as we continue to focus on achieving our Drive for 10 vision and leveraging the many opportunities within our aerospace and packaging businesses.”
