[Via Satellite 06-10-2014] Comtech EF Data, a subsidiary of Comtech Telecommunications, was awarded $4.2 million in contract orders for DMD2050E satellite modems from a systems integrator on behalf of the U.S. Army. The modems will support communications for a major military program.

The modems provide forward error correction and modulation capabilities, and are compliant with MIL-STD-188, Standardization Agreement (STANAG) 4486 Edition 3, the draft standard MIL-STD-188-165B, and the Intelsat Earth Station Standards (IESS)-308, IESS-309, IESS-310 and IESS-315 commercial standards. The modems are optimized for communications at-the-pause, flyaway and integrated satellite terminal communication uses.

The modem can also be integrated with Comtech’s DoubleTalk Carrier-in-Carrier bandwidth compression, and allows users to minimize bandwidth while maximizing throughput and availability without added transponder resources.
