[Via Satellite 06-05-2014] Macom’s Lowell Mass. wafer manufacturing facility was accredited by the Department of Defense (DoD) as a Category 1A Trusted Foundry, establishing the supplier of Radio Frequency (RF), microwave and millimeter wave products as a trusted manufacturer for classified and unclassified U.S. military and aerospace missions.

The Trusted Foundry program is administered by the Defense Microelectronics Activity (DMEA) organization on behalf of the DoD, and evaluates the trustworthiness of electronic components used in important national security systems. Through the program, the DoD assesses design and manufacturing processes for integrated circuits (ICs) — assessments which it then applies to creating strict requirements on chain of custody assurance, supply continuity and anti-tampering and anti-reverse engineering measures.

“Today’s customers demand supply options as the RF and microwave industry faces increased consolidation,” said Suja Ramnath, senior vice president and general manager at Macom. “Receiving Trusted Foundry accreditation reinforces Macom’s experience, commitment and expertise in servicing the aerospace and defense market.”
