[Via Satellite 10-25-13] The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has awarded a contract task order to Riverside Technology, a designer and implementer of integrated scientific, engineering and IT solutions, for the Storm Surge Model Development project. This work, awarded to Riverside under the Scientific, Technical Support Services (Sci-Tech) contract, will be performed by Riverside in partnership with URS Corporation.

The flooding along the U.S. Eastern seaboard as a result of Hurricane Sandy demonstrated the need for combined ocean/estuary/river modeling in the prediction of wave height and water level forecasts near the coast and along affected rivers, specifically for the U.S. East and Gulf Coasts. In an effort to mitigate damages and loss of life resulting from future storms, the goal of this project is to accurately predict water level rise and the resulting coastal inundation caused by tropical or extra tropical cyclones with consideration for the effects of tides and river inflows.
