[Satellite TODAY 02-11-13] ViaSat has won a follow-on contract with the United States Marine Corps Systems Command to continue engineering advanced information security for commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) mobile devices.
The move will allow users to communicate securely over 3G/4G/LTE cellular and Wi-Fi networks using regular smartphones and tablets. Additionally, it will be safe to store sensitive data and protect the devices against malware attacks. The contract is worth $1.65 million in new business for ViaSat.
ViaSat is currently working on a secure mobile enterprise system that enables COTS devices to seamlessly connect into different carrier networks. This would be beneficial not only for the Marine Corps but also for any government or commercial customer.
