[Satellite TODAY 12-11-12] MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates (MDA) has signed an over $100 million contract with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) to supply the communications payload solution for the Amos-6 satellite, the information solutions provider announced Dec. 11.

MDA announced it had started work on this contract under an authorization to proceed in June 2012.
Amos-6 is scheduled to be launched in 2015 and aims to enhance the capacity of the existing Amos satellite constellation, which is owned and operated by Israeli satellite communications service provider Spacecom.  The constellation provides a large range of fixed and mobile communication services in the Middle East, Central and Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Africa.
The two companies also collaborated in January 2008 when Canada leased MDA tactical UAVs along with IAI’s Heron aircraft for its own Afghanistan mission.
