[Satellite TODAY 10-23-12] ViaSat is set to unveil a new portable broadband terminal featuring power-on, auto-acquire antenna pointing that greatly simplifies and speeds up deployment, the company announced Oct. 23.

The ViaSat VMT-1220P lightweight terminal is targeted for military ground and maritime operations and optimized for ViaSat’s worldwide broadband network, allowing mobile and dismounted warfighters to send and receive live full-motion video over the horizon, make secure phone calls and access classified networks worldwide.
ViaSat will offer tiered service plans for the terminal based on performance and connectivity.
“The military services have a variety of choices for portable satellite terminals, but the missing ingredient is the network,” ViaSat Alpha Innovations Team Vice President said Larry Taylor said in a statement. “What we offer is unique: packaging and performance that is ready to go on a worldwide broadband network.”
