Earth imagery service provider GeoEye appointed retired U.S. Air Force Gen. Michael Carns to serve on its board of directors as the representative of Cerberus Capital Management, the company announced Nov. 3.

Cerberus recently provided financing support of GeoEye’s bid on the U.S. National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency’s (NGA’s) EnhancedView $3.5 billion contract program, which the company was awarded in August 2010.

Carns previously served as the U.S. Air Force vice chief of staff — a position he held until his retirement in 1994. He currently serves on a number of U.S. Department of Defense advisory panels, boards and task forces, as well as on the board of directors for a number of corporations and technology start-ups, GeoEye said.
