[Satellite TODAY 10-18-11] Raytheon has installed military-grade Cobra Judy Replacement (CJR) X- and S-band antennas onboard the USNS Howard O. Lorenzen in Corpus Christi, Texas, the company announced Oct. 17.
Raytheon is the prime contractor for the CJR program, which aims to provide the U.S. government with long-loiter ballistic missile data collection capability. The CJR dual-band radar suite consists of X- and S-band phased-array sensors, a common radar suite controller and other related mission equipment. With the installation now complete, Raytheon said it is proceeding with shipboard dual-band radar integration and testing as stipulated in the program’s plan.
“The CJR program marks the first shipboard integration of a true dual-band active phased-array radar suite and is a major milestone for both the U.S. Navy and our industry team,” Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems Vice President Kevin Peppe said in a statement. “Prior to installation onboard the Lorenzen, the X-band and S-band arrays were installed and integrated into their enclosures. The common backend is the core integration technology that coordinates the two radars. All of the ship’s major hardware has now been installed.”
