[Satellite TODAY 08-16-11] Harris Corp. has received a $4.7 million order from the Canadian government for its Falcon 3 AN/PRC-117G multi-band man pack radios and RF-7800B tactical satellite communication systems, Harris announced Aug. 15.
The Harris systems aim to provide Canadian armed forces with next-generation tactical communications in support of network-enabled applications such as video and collaborative chat. Following integration with Harris’ RF-7800B terminals, the AN/PRC-117G units also will provide Canadian military personnel with end-to-end, Type-1 secure beyond-line-of-sight wideband communications connectivity.
Harris RF Communications President Andy Start said the order would be attributed to the company’s 2011 fiscal fourth quarter.
“The AN/PRC-117G and RF-7800B will enable new communications capabilities for Canada’s military that will lead to enhanced command and control and situational awareness. The wideband networking capabilities of the AN/PRC-117G give warfighters critical real-time information through a man-portable radio that is significantly smaller and lighter than previous man pack radios,” Start said in a statement.
