[Satellite TODAY 06-30-11] Al Yah Satellite Communications Co. (YahSat) has completed a demonstration for the space and ground segments of its YahSecure government Ka-band service and is now ready to start providing secure satellite communications capacity to defense and government entities in the Middle East, Africa, Europe and Asia regions, the operator announced June 29.
The service, provided by YahSat’s Y1A satellite launched in April, utilizes a steerable Ka-band beam to direct user-placed phone calls and video transmission from the Yahsat man-pack terminal made by Thales, into the Yahsat Transportable on-the-pause terminal and then out to the public telephone network.
The Yahsat Y1A integrated satellite communications system is comprised of the Y1A and Y1B satellites and ground segment, developed by an industrial team led by Astrium and Thales Alenia Space.
