[Satellite TODAY 04-27-11] Boeing has delivered the U.S. Air Force Space Command‘s second GPS 2F satellite to Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla., to prepare for launch aboard a United Launch Alliance Delta 4 rocket later this summer, the Air Force announced April 26.
    The GPS 2F satellite is the second built by Boeing out of a planned 12-satellite constellation. The first GPS 2F was set healthy to navigation and timing in August and is, “performing its navigation mission well and its atomic clock’s performance is the best seen on-orbit,” Air Force officials said.
    The GPS constellation is has 31 satellites currently on-orbit. The GPS 2F satellites aim to provide enhanced military signals that are more resistant to jamming and support an addition third civil signal for safety-of-life applications.
