[Satellite TODAY 03-21-11] The U.S. Department of Defense placed a $1.2 million Ka-band amplifier order with Comtech Xicom to power military satellite communication terminals, Comtech announced March 17.
    Comtech Xicom will provide the U.S. military with high linear power amplifiers in a compact, outdoor package. The form factor aims to enable much higher data-rate satcom uplinks for use in rugged, transportable terminals under severe environmental conditions.
    “They needed a new outdoor amplifier that provided twice the linear power in the same size, weight and prime power of the one in their existing system. Our team stepped up to this challenge and is now delivering an exceptional product that meets their requirements,” Comtech President and CEO Fred Kornberg said in a statement.
