[Satellite TODAY Insider 01-20-11] Raytheon will open in February its GPS Collaboration Center in El Segundo, Calif., which aims to allow U.S. Air Force Space and Missile Systems personnel to conduct simulated interactions with the GPS Operational Control Segment (GPS OCX) system, Raytheon announced Jan. 19.
    The 17,900-square-foot center will feature an executive presentation room and state-of-the-art operations and demonstration areas.
    Raytheon GPS OCX Program Manager Robert Canty told Satellite TODAY Insider that virtual interactions are key in leveraging GPS OCX’s navigation and timing information capabilities for civil, commercial and military GPS users.
    “This center allows our space and missile systems personnel to collaborate with our Air Force program partners via virtual demonstrations from Raytheon’s other program locations,” Canty said. “As GPS OCX integrates services among ground, space and user segments to enhance mission command and control and situational awareness capabilities, these operations and demonstration centers will allow directorate staff to interact with GPS OCX in an operations-like environment.”
    Canty said Raytheon and its subcontractor team have completed Phase A of the program and are on schedule to complete the Phase B preliminary design review in the second quarter. 
    Raytheon was selected as the prime contractor for the 73-month Space and Missile Systems Center’s GPS OCX program in February 2010. The Raytheon GPS OCX team includes Boeing, ITT, Braxton Technologies and Infinity Systems Engineering.
