[Satellite TODAY 12-14-10] A Space Based Infrared System (SBIRS) team led by the U.S. Air Force and prime contractor Lockheed Martin team has completed final integrated system testing of the first geosynchronous (GEO-1) satellite, which verified the spacecraft’s performance and functionality in preparation for delivery to the launch site, Lockheed Martin announced Dec. 13.
    Having conducted all system environmental testing, Lockheed Martin said the SBIRS GEO-1 is on track to meet its scheduled spring 2011 launch aboard an Atlas 5 from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla.
    The SBIRS team will complete final space-to-ground interface system testing, perform final spacecraft component installations and conduct a final factory confidence test. Lockheed Martin said its team is testing the satellite’s flight software and is on track to complete the spacecraft’s comprehensive flight software qualification testing program in early 2011.
